Our Purpose

Our mission is to promote community growth and engagement. We provide and support diverse, lifelong learning opportunities in an inclusive, imaginative, and welcoming environment. The Highgate Library was founded back in the late 1800s, but became incorporated in 1940. We officially became both a library and a community center in 2017. We support a population of around 3,600 people in a rural town in northern Vermont. We are a border town so we also support a population of Canadian second home owners as well as our year-round residents. The library and community center works hard to provide opportunities and access for all by providing free programming and services. Our goal has always been to provide these services as well as providing literacy services within the community.
