Our Purpose

Our mission is to ensure and enhance recreational access and opportunities for the Maine High Peaks Region by Conserving Land, Building and Maintaining Trails, and connecting people to each other and this landscape.  Currently, we are trying to spearhead a new advisory board in Farmington, ME.  This advisory board will help bring resources to the towns natural landscape. There is open space land that runs along the Sandy River close proximity to town.  The local university is attempting to create accessible trails but there is a bigger goal of connection all of the towns recreation land and make them as inclusive as possible.  We are drawing in the hospital, the university, city government, our nonprofit, other organizations.  The idea is that there are economic, health, and ecological benefits of developing easy and interconnectd trails.  There is a 12 mile lon multi-use trail that connects the hospital, a local ski/bike area, and multiple towns.  This trail dead ends where a bridge was destroyed by floods.  We aim to rebuild the bridge to connect the town and trail but also take advantage of the large area in town that has miles of river front.  We hope by connecting with these partners we will make Farmington a healthy and happy place to live and work.  Multiple professors are already helping to develop learning stations along the trail.
