After a recent hospitalization from a life long battle with various eating and emotional disorders, I founded Hiding In Plain Sight Inc. Some of our co-founders are still in treatment. Some are women and men of color who had been told eating disorders were something only affluent white women experience. For me help was not easy to find during my struggles, nor did I see any one like me in treatment, neither in color or size.Hiding in Plain Sight harnesses the power of social media to change the narrative of curated perfection and artificial beauty by promoting a spirit of self-love, acceptance, and a body-positive ethos among all people, regardless of race, body type, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, income level, or any other factor. Our inclusive lifestyle community, founded by people in various stages of recovery from eating and emotional disorders, embraces overlooked people who are “hiding in plain sight.” We provide a range of resources like virtual and in-person workshops and discussions, art & horticultural therapy, 1:1 coaching, and informational materials designed to educate and empower people who, for whatever reason, are not getting care for eating and emotional disorders.Our mission is to raise awareness about the many faces of eating  disorders and how to recognize the symptoms, the connection with body image, and the role society and the media play while providing a safe space.
