Healthy Plymouth
Our Purpose
Healthy Plymouth is a dedicated group of volunteers whose mission is to provide healthy activities for young people in our community identifying meaningful ways to stay healthy; enagaging youth in activities as a prevention strategy for risky behaviors; bring community expertise and resources to offer opportunities for good health in Plymouth. Our greatest initiative through our partnership with Terra Cura, Inc is installing and maintaining 13 organic, edible gardens throughout the Plymouth School District and to provide after-school garden programming for children and youth 5- 18 years. We also offer cooking demonstrations, outdoor classroom across all environmental subjects and the ability of families to volunteer at the gardens during the summer for harvest. Tomatoes are collected at each garden and brought to the Culinary Department at the Schools for a district-wide Tomato Sauce initiative held in October; vegetables are brought to South Shore Community Action's Food Distribution Center servicing area food pantries and senior centers. We are fortunate to have many great Community Partners in this endeavor. We depend on fundraising to purchase the needed supplies but as we enter our 3rd year of the Garden Project with expansion possible to additional community gardens, we are searching for other avenues of revenue.
