Our Purpose

The Health Share team consists of an interdisciplinary group of students and professionals aligned to increase access to local food for patients in primary care centers. Team members include Diane Imrie, director of Nutrition Services at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Alicia Jacobs, M.D., medical director, Colchester family practice, Paul Feenan, director, Vermont Youth Conservation Corps farm, and Conner Soderquist, student, The University of Vermont. The central goal of the Health Share is to increase access to healthy food for low-to-moderate income families by providing a free farm share. Additional goals are to encourage healthy eating practices, create a market niche for local farms, and reduce health care spending by improving chronic disease risk factors related to diet. We believe food is our best medicine. We also believe improving access to local food is among the most important preventative care measures we can take.
