Our Purpose

to solve global warming one Maine community at a time; To support Maine's aggressive goals to weatherize 100% of its homes and 50% of its businesses by 2030.. a significant step towards reducing the state's carbon footprint from heating 80% of our old, leaky homes with oil. The Green Sneakers Project-Midcoast goals are to boost home retrofits and build a green economy in our midcoast communities, using word-of-mouth and community-based social marketing with trained adults and students as the trusted messengers. The midcoast is targeted to be Maine's first buttoned-up community, neighborhood by neighborhood. Green Sneakers Project-Midcoast, a project seeded by Maine Partners for Cool Communities and its signature Green Sneakers Project, carries the mission of the larger group into the local community.

The Future Homeowners/Community Leaders Project (FHCL) is designed to train and empower high school-age youth who will, in turn, educate and train their families/other community members in the principles of weatherization and energy efficiency through several avenues that may include: providing home energy visits/walk-thrus while discussing energy solutions with their families/neighbors; enrolling homeowners in a web-based energy plan to track personal energy reductions; creating filmed testimonials of local homeowners, who've made energy-saving improvements; working with community volunteers and homeowners to build interior storm windows; or other projects the students may create that bring their knowledge and new skills directly into the community.
