Our Purpose

to increase the availability of fresh produce in the local Hartford food system while providing job opportunities and training for youth, and encouraging community development through sustainable grassroots projects. Summer of Solutions Hartford is a food justice oriented program. Parent organization Grand Aspirations empowers, connects, and supports youth leaders as they create innovative, self-sustaining, and inter-dependent initiatives that systemically integrate climate and energy solutions, economic security, and social justice. Through programs called Summer of Solutions, Grand Aspirations trains young people from across the country in the leadership skills they need to create a just, thriving, and sustainable world.

Summary of Projects

The group received a Grow grant in 2012 to attract and retain experienced and qualified program coordinators in an effort to make systemic connections in the city and work towards a larger vision. Bringing youth into planning as program leaders, the group is able to provide community organization and green job training. Future plans include launching a community farm that will contract with local schools to bring more local produce into the system.

Summer of Solutions - Hartford received a grant in 2011 to cover a program leader stipend as the program is expanding to additional sites.
