Our Purpose

Our purpose is to...Through education, advocacy, and community-based decision-making we work to shape a food system where our entire community of Lewiston-Auburn has access to good food...How We Make Change:  We create and support improvements to the food system of the greater Lewiston-Auburn Maine community through…
  • Fostering Collaboration within and between Sectors
  • Identifying and working to Solve Gaps in the food system
  • Providing Non-partisan Research and Educational Resources in matters of Public Policy
  • Raising Awareness of and Support for Local Programs and Businesses
  • Responding to emerging Community Needs and Opportunities
The GFCLA was created as a vehicle for implementing the goals outlined by the community in 2011-2013 through a multi-year community food assessment conducted by St. Mary’s Nutrition Center and partners. The ongoing focus of the work has been to create a Lewiston-Auburn that has a thriving food system that supports healthy people and neighborhoods and a strong local economy.
