Get On Tap
Our Purpose
Get On Tap is a youth-led movement pledging allegiance to local tap water over single-serve bottled water. As students, we know that school teaches us habit. We learn how to manage our time, pay attention in class, and study well. So why shouldn't we learn to live sustainably? Buying bottled water is a harmful habit which we no longer need. Get On Tap encourages students to rely on local water instead, saving our district time and money, and of course, saving our planet too. With these benefits in mind, we hope to institute a permanent transition from bottled to local water. This transition will be enacted through two stategies: promotion and prevention. To promote the use of local water, Get On Tap will host an educational week in our schools featuring events such as guest speaker presentations, documentary screenings, pledge signing stations, and bottled vs. tap blind taste-test activties. This week is confirmed to take place April 10th - 13th. In addition to this week, Get On Tap will install a new Hydration Station water bottle filler in the district junior high school. To prevent further relliance on bottled water, Get On Tap is in communication with district administration to change policy regarding the sale of bottled water in school cafeterias and vending machines. Policy will also change regarding the offering of bottled water at school-sponsored events.
