Genuine Local Ag-Based Maker Space
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to create an entrepreneurial food hub where food is grown, processed, aggregated, distributed, sold and served, and where associated skills are taught, learned and practiced. Genuine Local has always had this vision at its core, but the opportunity to establish an ag-based maker space at the former Laconia State School has been a catalyst to push us forward, expand our scope and ask broader questions. The idea is to include access to equipment and expertise for farmers and food makers, provide an aggregation point for regional or statewide distribution. Education is central to the overall vision, and may include regulatory compliance, business development, pricing development, food safety, vocational training and skills enhancement. The various components are envisioned as being active agriculture, food production (shelf stable, value added, cheese, fermentation, beverages), training/education, retail opportunities, and land stewardship. The key question at this juncture appears to be how to best organize the efforts to optimize the range of interested parties, skills, resources and ensure long-term success for the overall enterprise. Our next step is to create an inclusive and responsive organizational structure which will ensure that we address the primary issues of concern without duplicating existing efforts.
