Friends of the South River Park and Greenway
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to manage and maintain a public riverfront park that had become deteriorated from lack of proper maintenance compromising the conservation value of the property and the experience for visitors. The South River Park was developed by the Marshfield Open Space Committee to restore ecological integrety to a degraded property abutting a National Natural Landmark River that lies within "Priority Habitat for Rare and Endangered Species" as designated by the Mass Natural Heritage and Endgangered Species Program. The park is also home to a Veterans Honor Roll, a granite wall with over 1200 names of Marshfield veterans that have served in the Korean, Vietnam and recent conflicts. Providing a well maintained and respectful site for quiet contemplation is essential to the success of the park. The Department of Public Works lacks the funding and staff to maintain the property and have enthusiasticlly endorsed our Mission Statement with Goals and Objectives to restore the park and create lasting stewardship for the future.
