Friends of the Egleston Square Branch Library
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to advocate for our library as a vital shared community resource and to support community learning and cohesion through library programming and the design of our physical space. We aim to create a “learning landscape” that helps adults and children enjoy their relationship to nature, books, and nutrition. In the past four years we have installed outdoor gardens, orchards, classroom spaces, pathways and art based on an inclusive community planning process. These projects have allowed us to expand our community's collective knowledge of permaculture, environmental justice, and food systems. Our goal is to engage our community across race, class, age, income, language and ability to sustain our library with a special emphasis on sustainable environmental awareness and resiliency. Post pandemic and associated economic and public health crisis we aim to supply our community with the means to grow flowers and vegetables safely.
