Our Purpose

Friends of Newburyport Trees (a non-profit) was organized in 2006 to assist the City of Newburyport and the City's Tree Commission to preserve, plan, plant, and care for public trees; to educate and encourage a respect for the aesthetic, ecologic, horticultural and economic value of such; to receive gifts and donations for the support of the city's public trees and shrubs. Our work includes bi-annual street tree plantings (50-75 trees), seasonal care of young trees, collaborative projects with school children, and the distribution of information and materials at public events. Since 2002 the Tree Commission, using funds from FoNT, the City, and grants, has planted, and cared for, over 750 street trees.
