Friends of Buttonwood Park
Our Purpose
to protect and enhance Buttonwood Park in the spirit of Frederick Law Olmsted and to provide the people of the community with premier horticultural and zoological displays in an environment that allows them to relax and escape from the stresses of urban life. Friends of Buttonwood Park is an all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1988 as recommended by the Olmsted Historic Landscape Preservation Program 1988 Master Plan for Buttonwood Park entitled "Reclaiming the Usable Past." Our mission is Stewardship, Protection and Renewal of the valuable resource that is Buttonwood Park. We support the maintenance, management and improvement of the Park and act as advocates of the Master Plan. The group's purpose is The Friends conduct a number of community-based educational programs and environmental projects that enhance the Park, and they were instrumental in placing the Park and its surrounding neighborhood on the National Register of Historic Places.
