"Our mission is to protect and improve the ecology of the Fort River, its tributaries and watershed lands for the benefit of present and future generations. Through advocacy, expanding recreational opportunities, conducting research and educating the public, our aim is to ensure that people from all walks of life celebrate, appreciate and value the great beauty and importance of this waterway."Our group has set out the following goals for the next 16 months: (1) Stage a RiverFest and Cleanup event on Sept 28. (2) Publish a "State of the River" document by the end of 2020 detailing the rich aquatic resources of the watershed (endangered species; unique habitat, etc) and water quality concerns. (3) Guide the restoration plan of a 150 acre parcel through which 2.5 km of river flows currently being acquired from a private golf club for conservation. Special consideration will be given to turning golf cart paths into accessible recreation paths and restoring the river's phsical habitat, presently degraded from 50 years of golf course operations.
