FCAI is a national, youth-led movement building the constitutional right to a livable climate through the Federal Climate Amendment, a forthcoming proposed amendment to the U.S. Constitution carried by lead sponsor Representative Summer Lee (PA-12) in Congress. We also work on advancing statewide climate amendments.Since 2023 there have been two constitutional climate lawsuits (Held v. Montana and Navahine v. Hawaii DOT) litigated successfully based upon similar climate and environmental rights amendments in the two states. There are only five states nationally with this right, and passing amendments into more state constitutions would provide the legal grounding for future successes in constitutional climate litigation to drive decarbonization. Building the federal amendment in Congress would provide a compelling north star for the movement nationally
