Our Purpose

Our purpose is to facilitate rapid change to renewable energy use, primarily for heating, locally. We have focused for two years on preventing a utility from being granted a franchise for fossil fuel expansion, building and operating a natural gas pipeline in Lebanon and Hanover.  As an outgrowth, six months after this opposition began, one of our members wrote a Sierra Club grant which was funded, leading to the creation of a tandem group, the "Ready for 100" core team.  That group achieved its first goal with the Town of Hanover, NH voting unanimously at Town Meeting 5/9/17 to have 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and renewable heat and transportation by 2050. Concomitantly, other Upper Valley towns have worked on becoming "Ready for 100" towns, and that work continues in both NH and VT.
