Edmunds Landscape Project
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to develop a comprehensive plan including design, permitting, and funding, for the development of a Community Garden/Campus Park, by the fall of 2015.Edmunds campus, located two blocks above Church St., on Main St. is a gateway to the city. The area draws the interst of visitors and residents through its brightly colored play scape, sidewalks, plantings and iron benches. Over the years many efforts have been made to improve the overall appearance and utility of the campus. Now we are undertaking a much more comprehensive planning project that will turn available landscape into space that will serve both students and community members alike. With volunteers from the community that include landscape designers, businessmen, and growers, we are working together to thoughtfully construct an educational and recreational experience, which is environmentally sustainable, one that will serve both visitors and residents as well. The design of the Campus Park would involve cultivating a sustainable hillside park that would control erosion and protect the Lake Champlain watershed while utilizing existing springs to irrigate. The Community Garden would be created by planting pathways with indigenous Vermont fruits and vegetables, ones that would be being nurtured and grown alongside outdoor learning spaces. The purpose of our group is to take these ideas forward to make the things that we wish existed, become a reality.
