Our Purpose

ECHO Action is a team of active community leaders from throughout Southern New Hampshire who coordinate on campaigns for clean, renewable energy to keep our state from being locked into a fossil fuel future. We understand that to stand against something, you must promote positive alternatives, and that's what we do best! In the past, we have expanded our network throughout the state working with Protect The Granite State in opposition to Northern Pass, uniting Southern and Northern New Hampshire in support of a clean energy future and in opposition to large-scale, damaging, unneeded energy infrastructure. In the past two years we have increased our lobbying at the NH State House as well as joining other East Coast and Midwestern organizations in lobbying Congress to stop the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from rubber stamping pipelines. We first formed in opposition to the Kinder Morgan Northeast Energy Direct (NED) pipeline. While other pipeline opposition groups said, "No Pipeline", many of us felt it's important to address what we do want, not just what we don't want. In a meeting with Governor Hassan in the spring of 2015, a pipeline opposition group was asked, "If not the NED pipeline, then what?" With concerns that talk of renewables and climate change would turn off some state representatives, the choice had been made not to address these issues at all. In fact, they had a list that included words that were not to be used. The lengthy list of words included environment, renewable energy, solar, wind and climate change.ECHO Action has continued to support the efforts of all pipeline opposition groups, but have added a more direct message of urgency for the future of our planet. Our goal of "FossilFree603" speaks to the protection of resources for humans and wildlife, as well as acting on climate by supporting New England's RGGI, defending President Obama's Clean Power Plan, promoting net metering and offshore wind in the Gulf of Maine. The NED pipeline was withdrawn on May 23rd, 2016 because of a lack of contracts and customers. Our work never slowed. In fact, it has increased and we now face a more pervasive threat. Liberty Utilities is entrenching themselves across the state of NH, building a false need to justify the NED pipeline or another similar pipeline. Our current campaign to stop Liberty Utilities' plans for a Keene Gas Plant. We have continued to attend trainings, educate ourselves and others and become more thoroughly involved in the political process. We spent 2016 opposing the closure of Concord Steam and the transition of the NH State House, City of Concord, state buildings and the Concord School District. Two divisions of our organization are NH Pipeline Resistance and Climate Rebel Coalition NH. We mentor college students and work locally, regionally and nationally to raise awareness and increase understanding while sharing our work and coordinating with a variety of like-minded groups including the NH Plastic Pollution Alliance, Delaware Riverkeeper Network and Beyond Extreme Energy.ECHOaction.orgFacebook: ECHO Action NH, NH PipelineResistance, ClimateRebelCoalition, ECHO Action Network GroupTwitter: ECHO Action Team, T: FossilFree603Instagram: ECHO Action* We have an EIN, but are not yet incorporated or have nonprofit status.
