Our Purpose

Earthwise Aware (EwA) is a young conservation organization focused on bringing biodiversity science, ecological ethics, and environmental leadership to the heart of communities. EwA's motto is 'Nature Conservation as a Way of Life'–An attitude  EwA wants to instill in communities in such a way that it becomes 'behavioral'. EwA runs a Biodiversity citizen science program that helps achieve this ecological journey. The program's goal is to "Advance Biodiversity & Climate Research And Give Science Back to the People". EwA’s model is co-creative, inviting its citizen scientists to learn and contribute to and even lead conservation studies. EwA also offers public awareness walks that focus on understanding urban natural systems at the sites that we survey, including a suburban woodland and various green spaces in one of the densest cities in America. EwA runs nature systems studies that document consistently across 8 cities in Massachusetts. EwA’s projects include plant event timing monitoring; bio-pollution logging; arthropod surveys; biodiversity mapping and monitoring; and vernal pool documentation and certification. Through education and field experience, community members from all walks of life, gender and age increase their ecological awareness and literacy. They join a caring community. They find relevance and purpose. They are empowered and become agents of change in their own community.
