Double House Arts Collective
Our Purpose
Double House Arts Collective is a grass roots collective started in October 2022 through crowdfunding. We are an inclusive open arts studio for artists with and without disabilities to create together under one roof, build connections, and develop community. We started our collective due to a beloved local art program that supported artists with disabilities for over a decade closing. A small group of us wanted to create a new community for some of the prolific art makers who lost their space. Since we started we have supplied funding with Maine Developmental Disabilities Council and a Fiscal Sponsorship with Maine Inside Out. Our inclusive arts collective provides an option different from a community support or day program model. All of the artists who are members of the collective have an equal voice in the direction of the art session time, unique workshops offered, and exhibit and event planning. We provide the opportunity for two paid leadership positions in the group to artists with disabilities. Our hope is to foster an environment in which disabled and non-disabled artists enter into the Disability Arts movement and local arts community as creative partners.
