Don't Take That Receipt!
Our Purpose
Don’t Take That Receipt! is a public health education group in Western MA run by youth and adults. Our mission has been to educate about the presence and hazards of Bisphenol-A (BPA) and Bisphenol-S (BPS) in thermal paper receipts, tickets and labels. We came to this work in response to the pervasive handling of thermal paper and the equally pervasive lack of knowledge about the hazards of these products. DTTR was founded by a filmmaker who worked extensively with youth and specializes in social issue videos. Our group educates our communities through the sharing of our funny and informative videos and website, and through outreach and education to local businesses, schools, and institutions. We provide actionable tips and assistance to workers, managers, and customers to reduce their exposure and create healthier work environments. We are now excited to expand our public health education to tackle another pervasive and harmful consumer chemical project: PFAS. The idea for this expansion came as a suggestion from another grantee during a Just Transition Community of Practice call. When we mentioned our plan to wind down our education work in June 2020, a group member encouraged us to continue educating about other chemicals with our successful video model, specifically PFAS. Through subsequent communications with Clean Water Fund, we were excited to find both an interest and a need to continue this work, and a new collaboration was formed.
