The group received a grant in 2008 to reclaim unused city land and , with the city's approval, to establish a community garden and agricultural landscape to benefit the entire community. The group is working with city departments, and with local organizations such as the Friends of Evergreen Cemetery and Portland Trails to transform an overgrown, littered parcel into a network of trails, gardens and orchards. Funds are used for building materials for raised beds, perimeter fencing and tool shed.
Deering Center Community Garden
Our Purpose
to establish a collective garden opportunity for the Deering Center neighborhood. It is our goal to provide an opportunity for sustainable gardening and community harvest sharing on a parcel of unused city land, which will provide open green space for all community members.
