Conway Giving Garden
Our Purpose
The mission of this project: To fortify our community by growing nutritious food and donating it to local charitable groups. The first Giving Garden will be established this summer on previously farmed property along the Saco River in Conway, New Hampshire. The garden will include a set of raised annual and perennial vegetable beds and a pollinator garden. Upkeep of the garden will be shared by a team of volunteers, and managed with organic, low-tech, high-yields methods. The project will be conducted in collaboration with Starting Point: Services for Victims of Domestic & Sexual Violence, the managing organization of Grace House. Residents of the house will be welcomed as volunteers in the garden and a portion of the food harvested will be donated to the Grace House kitchen. The entire harvest from the garden - anticipated to be 1000+ pounds of food the first year, with the quantity increasing each season as the garden space is expanded - will be donated to local organizations including Vaughan Community Services and other local food pantries, Grace House, and Kismet Rock Foundation. The location of the garden is a women's and children's shelter and this is the first project they have endeavored on that involves 'outside' volunteers from the community being invited to the site. We've decided to not establish a website or engage in a lot of social media content development during this first year to ensure that that interface between shelter residents and the public is not too overwhelming, or worse yet, endangering.
