Community Kitchens of northeastern Connecticut
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to feed the body and the soul in an environment of care, support, and safety to individuals and families who come through our doors. Community Kitchens of Northeastern Connecticut is a non-profit volunteer-powered organization. For the past thirty-seven years we have been providing nutritious noontime meals for our neighbors who experience food insecurity at one of five locations every weekday throughout the year. Our meals have become communities of support for our guests by addressing basic human needs for companionship, socialization, and emotional solace, and by providing resources for those in pursuit of self-sufficiency. Food insecure households are not necessarily food insecure all the time. Food insecurity may reflect a household’s need to make trade-offs between housing, heat, or medical bills and purchasing nutritionally adequate foods. Families are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet. They face tough choices, given the increase in cost of many of these basic needs.
