Our Purpose

Our purpose is to use local, practical, solutions to improve the health, wellbeing and sustainability of the community while building climate consciousness and community bonds.  We are a local community participant with  Window Dressers based in Rockland, ME  constructing and installing low cost insulating window inserts in homes and businesses which help local people to stay warm while reducing CO2 emissions and heating costs.  CEC is also committed to other local efforts to raise awareness of the environment and climate change, and in bringing our community together around efforts to move away from fossil fuel use and environmentally destructive practices.  We have led a high school climate club in the past year.  We have run community workshops for Earth Week in 2021, and we are pursuing efforts as noted above.  Through the membership of one of our members on the Maine Climate Council Equity Subcommittee we maintain a focus on equity in all our undertakings. One of our members (LF), also a member of the Equity Subcommittee of the Maine Climate Council reviewing the Governor's “Maine Won't Wait” Climate Plan, is part of a local “Climate Action Advisory group” working with local communities to develop achievable strategies to reduce climate impacts. In this work we are specifically drawing attention to ways in which communities must implement strategic climate plans within an equity framework.
