Co-op Power Boston Metro East Community Energy Cooperative
Our Purpose
Co-op Power is a multi-racial, multi-class movement building a sustainable and just energy future. Co-op Power Metro East (BME) is a Community Energy Cooperative run by Co-op Power members in Metro East to organize and advance the goals of justice and sustainability. Co-op Power Boston Metro East will reduce our communities' over-reliance on fossil fuels and work for environmental justice and green job creation by promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy, especially in low income communities and communities of color in the Greater Boston area. We are building a movement to transform the Greater Boston area to a more just and sustainable future. In the past year, Co-op Power Boston Metro East has developed a partnership with Resonant Energy to bring rooftop solar to nonprofits and low-and-moderate income households, in addition to our work with community solar, where we are working to bring clean energy and utility savings to community members who don’t own their own homes. Co-op Power BME has joined the initiative Codman Square Goes Solar (http://codmansquaregoessolar.com/) and has supported the development of rooftop solar for 25 households and 6 nonprofits over the past year. As Co-op Power works to bring solar and energy efficiency awareness to our community, we are also providing an ownership structure that allows our residents to own shared solar arrays together -- while allowing the co-op to expand with new member services.
