Climate Summer is a leadership development program run by and geared towards young people. We aim to support the active climate justice movement in New England through grassroots organizing where participants travel throughout the region exclusively by bicycle. We intend to facilitate the growth of the next generation of climate justice leaders and to establish and strengthen lifelong relationships among them. Simultaneously, we seek to cultivate reciprocal, collaborative, and sustained relationships with the communities and organizations we work with. We are passionate about shifting the narrative around climate change: from the simplistic, technocratic and statistic-based narrative towards centering and supporting directly impacted communities and their struggles. We want to increase the understanding of the diverse ways in which climate change affects communities that are intersectional and context specific. The urgency of climate change inspires collective and transformative action. This program focuses on the role, voices, and inherent power of youth in contributing to the climate justice movement.
