Citizens of Alfred – Stop the Quarry formed in response to a proposed 190-acre hard rock quarry in a rural residential and resource protection district. Our overarching goal is to protect Alfred’s groundwater, wetlands, wildlife habitat, rural character, and public health from irreversible industrial impacts.We seek to ensure that land-use decisions are based on complete science, transparency, and community participation — not incomplete desktop reviews or industry minimization. Beyond stopping this specific quarry, we aim to strengthen rural communities’ ability to advocate for environmental protection, preserve undeveloped land, and safeguard ecological and human health for future generations.
