Our Purpose

to change trash and recycling procedures and outcomes in Chelsea Massachusetts with the goals to 1) increase curbside recycling by residents so that the city's recycling rates improve from a woeful baseline of 7% of all tonnage (compared to a statewide average of 26%); 2) reduce trash on the streets as measured by the number of "egregious trash" offenders in our target neighborhood; and 3) support these changes by passing new city ordinances that encourage improved recycling and reduced street trash.

Summary of Projects

Chelsea Neighborhood Developers received a grant through the Boston Grants Initiative in 2011 to support a collaborative project with the Community Enhancement Team, a resident-lead group, to increase the dismal recycling rates in the city.
