The Charles River Food Co-op was formed to build a community-owned grocery that strengthens the local food economy while giving residents a direct stake in a vital neighborhood resource. Our region has strong local farms and food producers, yet many struggle to access stable retail markets, while residents increasingly seek affordable, culturally diverse, and locally sourced food. We believe a cooperative grocery model can bridge these gaps.As a member-owned cooperative, the Co-op allows community members to collectively shape how food is sourced, sold, and circulated locally. Our work focuses on building the relationships, membership base, and partnerships necessary to launch a store that supports regional farmers and food entrepreneurs, creates good local jobs, and keeps more food dollars circulating within our communities.Ultimately, our goal is to create a sustainable, community-governed grocery and small-vendor hub that strengthens regional supply chains, expands opportunity for diverse food businesses, and ensures that the benefits of the local food economy are shared by the people who live and work here.
