Our Purpose

Cambridge City Growers (CCG) was founded in April, 2020 amidst the covid-19 crisis to address food shortages and the problematic global supply chain. We are an open collective of volunteers that transform underutilized spaces into food gardens, maintain a community fridge, and provide educational opportunities to increase access to healthy, locally grown, and organic produce. The purpose of our work is to build community through sharing land between individuals, businesses, and municipalities.Urban residents disproportionately lack access to both affordable grocery stores and outdoor growing space. CCG identifies opportunities to maximize resources that benefit marginalized community members without stigma. In Cambridge, there is a mix of 7-figure salary academics and newly settled refugees. Our communal spaces bring together all peoples towards the goal of rematriating land. We do this work as a reflection of Indigenous practices that continually encourage others to take responsibility for their places in the food system.
