Our Purpose

Caledonia Grange is a community organization, which strives to improve life for all who live in our rural area. The Grange’s focus is to provide an affordable and comfortable Hall for organizations and individuals, as well as to offer programming that builds and strengthens our local community, and addresses issues of isolation and food insecurity.  The organization is run entirely by volunteers.Caledonia Grange is the longest continuously operating Grange in New England. It is housed in a beautiful historic Grange Hall, built in 1903. Caledonia is one of the 40 or so Community Grange organizations in Vermont, which in turn are part of the National Grange.   The Grange is a community organization with its roots in agriculture.  Founded in 1867, the Grange was formed as a national organization with a local focus. Every Grange is different, and so are the activities that take place in their Grange Halls, but all Granges are open to everyone, and encourage participation in their activities and decision-making by all. Caledonia Grange is located in the small village of East Hardwick, and has recently had a resurgence in membership and organization, after nearly closing its doors due to lack of active members. Now, a strong and committed group of volunteers are rehabilitating the hall, and organizing programming to serve the community in the village and the surrounding region.
