Our Purpose

To unite neighbors in promoting urban agriculture and reforestation, enhance neighborhoods, and strengthen the web of community resources to look beyond sustainability towards a vibrant healthy relationship with our landscape. Through this we hope to achieve a community which promotes interaction among neighbors for the creation of residential food-producing gardens and restoration of degraded landscapes.

Summary of Projects

Burlington Permaculture received a grant in 2010 to encourage and assist Chittenden County residents to convert a portion or all of their existing lawn space into a productive vegetable garden or mini-orchard in a safe, healthy way, by organizing an active educational campaign and contest.

Burlington Permaculture received a grant in 2009 to increase food security and environmental awareness in the Burlington community through the planting of fruit trees and edible landscaping shrubs along with educational information about their care, maintenance and environmental benefit. The project will be accomplished by facilitating a Fall 2009 planting of fruit and nut trees to be followed by a spring 2010 planting of berries and other edible shrubs.Plants will be spread throughout the city in both private and public spaces to encourage urban food production and the greening or urban landscapes through the planting of perennial trees and shrubs and the transition towards a culture of self reliance.
