Our Purpose

BAN has two equally important missions. 1. A focused campaign working on closing Vermont Yankee by March, 2012, followed by a safe and controlled decommissioning of Vermont Yankee-setting a precedent that would begin the closing of all crumbling plants in the United States and a ban on nuclear energy entirely. BAN is organizing to bring residents of Northern Vermont to join the activism led by our southern neighbors, Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Alliance (VYDA), Vermont Citizens Action Network (VCAN) and Citizens Awareness Network (CAN), a tri-state alliance. 2. Nuclear education of private citizens and the college students of our area, by presenting speakers, films and discussion groups. The tragedy of Fukushima is awakening the interest to students too young to have been part of the learnings of the anti-nuclear movement of the 70's.
