Brooklyn for Sensible Growth received a grant in 2009 to coordinate a community grassroots effort to advocate fro smart growth land-use and economic development policies in response to an effort to bring a Wal-Mart Supercenter to brooklyn, CT. The Supercenter would be between 150,000-200,000 square feet and would negatively impact the small area business community, decrease property value, effect the environment including wetlands, forest and wild life habitat and change forever the rural life that Brooklyn residents have enjoyed.
