Bridgham Community Garden Committee
Our Purpose
The BCGC is compromised of WBNA members who wish to supplement their food by growing their own food in an organic urban environment by using a parcel of land owned by the WBNA at the intersection of Bridgham and Westminster Streets. In 2006, the WBNA applied for a NEGEF Grant and was awarded $1,000 to revitalize overgrown, an underutilized lot, by turning it into the Bridgham Street Community Garden. The response was so overwhelming that the WBNA decided to increase the number of beds and in 2008 an NEGEF grant of $1,500 was awarded to double the number of neighborhood families gardening together at the WBNA Bridgham Street Community Garden for a total of 28 garden beds. This year as BCGC co-chair (along with Judie Gonsalves) we are proud to say we have 23 beds filled with gardeners from our neighborhood, 3 plots will be used specifically to grow food and herbs for Sojourner House ( a not for profit shelter, advocacy and resource center for victims of domestic violence) and 2 plots contain black and red rasberries shared by all of the gardeners.
