Boston Food Forest Coalition (BFFC)
Our Purpose
The Boston Food Forest Coalition (BFFC) was founded in 2015 as an urban land trust that creates perennial food gardens in the Greater Boston area, with an emphasis on historically underserved neighborhoods. Our primary goal as an organization is to promote food justice and sustainable urban agriculture by building relationships between neighbors, land, and food. Our food gardens contribute to local food sovereignty, promote climate change resiliency, increase nature in urban neighborhoods, and build cross-cultural community connections. Each food forest site is stewarded by a group of local volunteers who are trained and supported by BFFC to maintain their local garden site - including hosting arts and cultural events, producing food, and providing urban agricultural education. By supporting local community members as leaders and stewards in their own neighborhoods and gardens, we nurture relationships between neighbors and nature.Garden Raising events play an important role in supporting our community development and environmental education efforts. Garden Raisings are community effort to build a garden in a day. Through these events we have transformed backyards, churchyards, and library yards into edible food forest and pollinator gardens. BFFC is passionate about accessibility and therefore strives to provide cost subsidies, as well as provide Spanish language translation, to enable diverse populations to get involved.
