Our Purpose

to preserve, protect and enhance the environmental quality and recreational opportunities of the Blackstone River and its tributaries. Its initial primary emphasis was on recreation and recreation access. The BRWA has evolved over the years to include participation in a watershed-wide water quality monitoring program, establishment of an invasive plant control program, and an education and outreach program to local schools and community organizations to teach the public about the need for proper stewardship of the Blackstone River and its watershed. The Association is strongly committed to engaging local residents in activities supporting the BRWA's mission. Over 200 local volunteers participate in our cleanup events every year. In 2013, the Association gave multiple presentations to almost 180 students in three towns with its Watershed and Us model (see below). The BRWA is currently involved in at least 6 annual public events.
