Our Purpose

Our purpose is to...Biddeford is a former mill town with many people living at or near the poverty line.Biddeford Community Gardens (BCG) was founded in 2018 by two Master Gardener Volunteers who recognized and addressed a need to create and maintain public vegetable gardens. The first garden was in a small children's teaching garden. This was followed by the construction of a 41-bed flagship garden, which serves many local seniors, New Mainers, and economically-challenged citizens in Biddeford's low income neighborhoods where many residents are living on fixed incomes. These two gardens have now expanded to four in the City of Biddeford serving community members.BCG's mission is to empower community members to work with nature and cultivate welcoming urban green spaces, promotes agricultural and educational opportunities, and provides sustainable access to fresh, nutritious, locally-sourced food.Additionally, BCG is a York County Master Gardener Volunteer - approved program with each of its gardens is staffed with a dedicated team of volunteers. Our vision is for our gardens to provide food for those Biddeford residents that are food insecure – to feed our city from the ground up!
