At bibi and ni, our mission is to nurture wellness as well as cultivate strong community connections for individuals and families through providing culturally-relevant, ancestrally-based birthkeeping and herbal care services and programming. This project aims to address the lack of access to indoor and outdoor classroom spaces and garden education in early education centers (EECs) and organizations, particularly in working-class, predominantly Black and Brown neighborhoods of Boston, such as Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury as well as similar neighboring towns including as Brockton and Lynn. This project seeks to bridge that gap by creating indoor and outdoor classrooms and programming in EECs, providing infants and toddlers with early opportunities for exploration, inquiry, and learning in an garden setting with their families. In addition, building more indoor and outdoor ECC gardens will provide: hands-on learning & connection to nature, physical development, emotional & social development, healthy eating habits, and understanding of life cycles.
