Between the Willows
Our Purpose
Our mission is to uplift queer and BIPOC voices through theater and dance; We present stories that focus on sharing queer stories, are written by queer playwrights, and/or are produced by predominantly queer teams! In addition, we put an extra focus on providing paid opportunities for all collaborators; currently it is stipend based, but we are constantly working to improve the amount as we grow. We started officially back in 2023 after Nicole Dirmaier and Ry Poulin got together and dreamed of creating/producing shows that did not really have a presence in the community. As two queer artists, we felt that there were hardly any queer shows being produced locally; and no shows that allowed queer folks to exist as queer people without that needing to be the center or cause of any tragedy. Our goal was to bring a more human representation to the table. This doesn't mean shows that avoid tragedy, but instead allow queer folks to just be people, and to experience the same difficulties and successes as anyone else. We believe that bringing humanizing stories to the Burlington community allows our audience to ask the important questions; and challenge their current beliefs about what it means to be queer and/or BIPOC in our current world. Our ultimate goal is to bring folks from all walks of life to see our projects and open their minds.
