Berwick Community Garden
Our Purpose
BCG’s big-picture goal is to build a resilient, welcoming community where people can grow food, care for the land, learn from one another, and experience the belonging that comes from both receiving and contributing. We envision the garden as a shared community resource where locally grown food, gardening knowledge, accessible green space, environmental stewardship, education, and opportunities for connection are available across differences in age, income, ability, and experience. People may enter the community in very different ways—as gardeners, volunteers, children, older adults, foodshare participants, neighbors, or partners—but each should have meaningful opportunities to participate, contribute, and help shape what the garden becomes.Ultimately, we want BCG to strengthen the resilience of the wider community: increasing access to healthy food, building knowledge and skills, caring for local ecosystems, creating relationships across generations and circumstances, and developing the capacity of community members to care for one another and for shared resources. We also seek partnerships in which community organizations, businesses, institutions, and individuals share knowledge, resources, and strengths so that together we can accomplish more than any of us could alone. At the heart of that vision is reciprocity. Everyone has something to receive, and everyone has something to give. Our goal is to create the conditions in which both are possible.
