Our Purpose

to engage our urban low-income communities of color -- those who are least able to anticipate, cope with, resist, and recover from the worst consequences of climate change -- for solutions to neighborhood resilience to climate change. Beats of Resilience is an initiative spearheaded as a collaboration among a variety of community groups with focuses that span the environmental, immigrant, community development, advocacy, and education arenas. These groups include the Environment Council of RI, Environmental Justice League of RI, English for Action, Friends of Bucklin Park, and Direct Action for Rights and Equality. Building off our 2012 report that includes recommendations from our communities, we seek to begin implementing many of the strategies outlined in the report, while continuing to improve the report based on our conversations with neighbors.
