Our Purpose

Our goal is to create a community space that enhances social capital, while providing access to growing space for the public to grow nutritious and healthy foods. The mission of the garden is to stamp out hunger and eliminate food deserts while promoting a sustainable community model. One community garden by itself is not going to stamp out hunger for the entire area, but it will be a step in the right direction and could encourage more community projects of this nature to be developed. The long term goal of the garden is to open multiple locations within Livermore Falls and be a model for citizen engagement for other towns. Having three or four community gardens --spread out around town-- that are nestled into densely populated streets, such as Park Street or Knapp Street, will give people on those streets direct access to garden space. This effort will ultimately become an experiment in an individualized social safety net, with the community garden organization buying up a few pieces of land from the town or from individuals, then empowering members of the community to grow their own food in order to supplement their food budget.
