Our Purpose

Greater Ashmont Main Street has witnessed significant change within the organization, our Business District and adjoining neighborhoods over the past few years, particularly post-pandemic.New developments and changing commuter patterns have had a significant impact on the use of our business district and public spaces. We are fortunate to have active and engaged community members working to maintain what is working and necessary for current residents and businesses, finding avenues for meeting needs in a diverse and changing area and looking to the future to grow connections with Greater Dorchester and beyond. As a Main Streets Organization, we work to connect these community organizers, business owners, entrepreneurs, organizations and landlords with resources and collaborative opportunities. Our overarching goal is to strengthen our district, support resource-building and to create energy and excitement that draws others into an active district anchored by a major transportation hub.We engage residents, volunteers and particpants from around the city through public space clean-ups, a summer outdoor market, an indoor winter market and tree lighting event, a jazz performance series and our own porchfest event, Dorchfest. We are currently creating a collaboration with a local youth organization to meet both connection and safety needs for local youth. We are working to create new paid opportunites within our organization to further enhance the strength of our district.
