Our Purpose

to hold a celebratory public education community event. The 2011 Ecofest theme is water, and the one-day event is expanding to a one year campaign to educate and engage the community in the ways people impact water, and water affects people.

Summary of Projects

Arlington 2011 EcoFest Committee received a grant in 2010 for materials to construct a rain garden at Magnolia field (a community garden and recreation site along the Mystic River) as part of a year-long education and outreach campaign that builds upon Ecofest. With the help and long-term maintenance of DPW and volunteers, the rain garden will alleviate area flooding (which has closed the community garden and rec areas numerous times), runoff and stormwater pollution of the river, and encourage individuals to build their own rain gardens to improve water conservation, gardening, and watershed pollution.
