Our Purpose

to focus on watershed areas near Kennebec, Androscoggin and Sheepscot River Watersheds.

Summary of Projects

AVSWCD received a grant in 2009 for a half-day Septic Social to educate septic system owners about bacterial pollution that is closing local clam flats and to provide solutions to homeowners to fix the problem. The Septic Social is a central event that will be largely publicized in neighboring watershed communities and that builds on the group’s other outreach work at local fairs and through local press. The ultimate goals of the group are to fix the currently identified malfunctioning systems while consistently providing homeowners with technical and financial resources, and to carry on this outreach and resource sharing to other coastal communities affected by bacterial pollution.
