Our Purpose

As Kathleen Allen, PhD states, “Change flows through relationships, at the speed of trust.” At Alliance for a Viable Future (AVF), our core purpose is to build trust and deep connections among community leaders who are committed to a viable future for our children and the places we love. We believe that only by working together can we create the systemic change needed for long-term climate resilience. We do this by convening Bioregional Leadership Cohorts (BLC)—small, high-trust leadership circles that foster grassroots collaboration, intercultural peacemaking, and place-based solutions. As Margaret Wheatley reminds us, “Real power and energy are generated through relationships.” These cohorts are “islands of sanity”, where leaders find refuge and build the collective strength necessary for deep transformation. Our vision for 2050 is a 10,000-member regional network advancing Rights of Nature policies, regenerative economies, and Just Transition strategies throughout the Northeast. With each new season and cohort, we sense how powerful this movement can become.
