In 2007 Action for Chester's Tomorrow (ACT) received a grant to continue the engagement of citizens to prevent the establishment of a bedrock quarry on the edge of the village. This included a campaign to mobilize parents and other citizens to ensure the local high school board took an active process during the appeal by the quarry owners after their amended application was denied in environmental court.
Action for Chester’s Tomorrow
Our Purpose
to educate and involve the community concerning development and land use planning.
Summary of Projects
In 2006 Action for Chester's Tomorrow (ACT) received a grant to assist in a voter education campaign in order to defeat a ballot item that would change town zoning to allow gravel extraction processes to take place. The company operating the gravel plant looked to expand its operation onto land abutting a regional high school after it had been operating with permits of questionable legality. In addition, the group worked to prevent the development of an enlarged Commercial district on one end of the town center.
